Our Training Philosophy

Our philosophy concerning all dog training is based in using science-based, positive reinforcement (R+) techniques that are force-free. We believe that training should be fun for both animals and their humans, and that progress is more important than perfection. By using R+ techniques, we can help dogs learn the behaviors we want while also building a strong bond of trust and communication between them and us. Additionally, force-free methods are kinder and more effective in the long run, making them the best choice for both our furry friends and us.

Inclusivity

At Horse and Hounds Training, we believe that all pet owners should be treated with respect and inclusion. We welcome everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, neuro divergent status, race, gender, or religion. We believe in providing a safe and welcoming environment for all of our paw-rents and their pets.

Meet Our Trainer

Kelly Burgdorf

Kelly is a graduate of the Karen Pryor Academy and has been deemed a Certified Training Partner. Prior to her time in the training world, she was a licensed Audiologist in the state of Maryland, her experience treating hearing loss has given her the unique ability to tailor solutions to each individual’s needs, your dog’s included!

Her interest in animal behavior was sparked by training her anxious golden retriever, Luna.

Together they took every class their training center offered and it was these classes that set her on the path to training your dog! She has chosen to specialize in just two fields: group classes and reactive dogs. To Kelly, being a jack-of-all-trades means you are the master of none, and she wanted to master these two!
Kelly is also a unique trainer in that she is autistic, and has an ability to empathize with reactive dogs who find it hard to understand the world and how to navigate it.
